Hence this blog.
I've also become quite addicted to the Chevy Volt Owners group on Facebook. There are 4,926 members from around the world at the moment, and this number is growing every day. The Volt is only one EV. The Nissan Leaf Owners group has 1,045 members (but let's face it - it's not as cute as the Volt), Ford's assorted EV owners groups have, collectively, around 1000 members, and the Toyota Prius - admittedly the most popular car on the road in Florida today using EV technology in its hybrid vehicles - has a multitude of owners groups all over the world and an official "Like" page through Toyota with almost 10,000 likes. This is all versus the 13 people who like the Toyota Camry Fan Page.
I'm not knocking the Camry - I just ended my 3-year lease on my second Camry and both vehicles were very good to me. I've never spent a day at the dealership waiting on my Camry. But clearly the car does not inspire the love that the Chevrolet Volt inspires among many of its owners and leasers.
There are over 2 million electric cars on the road today in the world - half of these in the United States (Green Car Reports). By 2017, there are projected to be over 5 million plug-in electric cars (hybrid and pure EV) worldwide and nearly 15 million cars that utilize electric engine technology. This is not a fad, folks. This is your future.
Some of the topics we will be discussing in upcoming posts will include:
- How I chose the Volt.
- Charging in and around Central Florida.
- Home charging decisions.
- Electric vehicle maintenance.
- Electric vehicle education.
- Electric vehicle hate crime (yes, there is such a thing!)
So tune in and charge on.
(Disclaimer: Lisa Macon is a smart lady who tries to educate herself on the technology she lives and works with. She is not an electric vehicle engineer.)
